Structural MIG Welder
Location: Huntington, WV area (onsite)
Type: Travel contract · Full time · Night shift, 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
We're building a crew of structural MIG welders for a travel contract at an operating steel plant, expected to run 3 months or more with real potential to extend. The work is mostly prep and stiffener welding, a good next step for welders with 1 to 3 years. Starts now.
What you'll do
Weld new external stiffener ribs onto large steel silos laid on their sides (working wall 12 to 14 ft)
Grind, fit and clean 3/8 to 7/16 inch carbon plate, then remove the old internal ribs
Run intermittent skip welds to control distortion, mostly flat and vertical, no overhead
Work from aerial lifts above 6 ft, to client-supplied WPS, with mag particle inspection
What you bring
MIG (GMAW) experience on carbon steel (stick-only or TIG-only won't fit)
1 to 3 years of welding; structural plate, stiffener or gusset work preferred, strong shop or field welders considered
Basic 3G vertical skills
Commitment to travel for 3+ months
Ability to pass a 7-year background check plus urine and hair drug tests (site requirement)
Your own hood, gloves and PPE (welding machines provided)
Nice to have: Active AWS CWI. Two crew spots are held for CWIs, paid at the top of the range.
Per diem covers hotel and meals; rate negotiable for strong candidates.
