Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with strong Java backend development experience and a passion for building reliable, well-tested software.

This is a hands-on software engineering role focused on developing and operating distributed backend services, APIs, and SaaS platform capabilities, with additional responsibility for improving automated testing, test infrastructure, and engineering quality.

The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering fundamentals with practical experience designing automated tests, building reusable testing frameworks, and integrating quality engineering into the software development lifecycle.

You will contribute to technical design, implement production software, troubleshoot complex issues, and use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation, testing, debugging, and codebase modernization.

Roles & Responsibilities

Software Engineering & Development

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support Java-based backend services, APIs, and distributed applications.

• Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable software using Java, Spring Boot, and modern backend engineering practices.

• Contribute to architecture decisions, technical designs, and implementation of complex engineering initiatives.

• Develop and maintain microservices, integrations, and event-driven applications.

• Remain hands-on through coding, debugging, code reviews, testing, and production troubleshooting.

• Improve application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

• Participate in modernization initiatives involving refactoring, dependency upgrades, and improvements to existing systems.

DevTest & Quality Engineering

• Design and implement automated testing solutions for backend services, APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.

• Develop reusable test frameworks, testing libraries, utilities, and supporting automation infrastructure.

• Build automated unit, integration, regression, API, contract, and system-level tests.

• Improve test coverage, testability, and release confidence across existing and new software components.

• Develop automated validation for asynchronous processing, event-driven workflows, failure recovery, and distributed-system behaviour.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and continuous delivery workflows.

• Investigate test failures, identify root causes, and improve the reliability and maintainability of automated testing.

• Work closely with engineers to establish effective testing strategies and reduce defects reaching production.

AI-Native Engineering

• Leverage AI coding tools, including Claude Code or equivalent technologies, to support development, testing, debugging, and codebase analysis.

• Use AI-assisted techniques to accelerate automated test creation, code generation, refactoring, and documentation.

• Review and validate AI-generated code and tests to ensure correctness, maintainability, and reliability.

• Identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity through automation and AI-assisted workflows.

Production Engineering & Delivery

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting automated builds, testing, deployment, and release processes.

• Troubleshoot production issues using logs, metrics, tracing, and application diagnostics.

• Support cloud-native services operating across AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.

• Collaborate with DevOps, Platform, Product, Security, and other engineering teams to improve software delivery.

• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and mentoring of other engineers.

• Take ownership of engineering solutions from design and implementation through deployment and production support.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience developing backend applications, SaaS platforms, or distributed systems.

• 4+ years of hands-on Java backend development experience.

• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and backend service development.

• Experience designing, implementing, debugging, and supporting production software.

• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, or event-driven architectures.

• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, concurrency, asynchronous processing, and system design.

• Hands-on experience developing automated tests for backend services, APIs, or distributed applications.

• Experience building or extending automated testing frameworks, test libraries, or reusable testing utilities.

• Strong understanding of unit, integration, regression, API, and system-level testing.

• Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with automated test execution.

• Experience building and operating production applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Experience troubleshooting application failures, debugging code, and investigating production issues.

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to support coding, testing, debugging, or software maintenance.

• Ability to independently own technical deliverables from design through production support.

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate, or similar backend frameworks.

• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other distributed messaging technologies.

• Experience testing asynchronous systems, event-driven architectures, and distributed workflows.

• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers, REST Assured, WireMock, or equivalent testing technologies.

• Experience developing reusable automation frameworks or improving automated test infrastructure.

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized testing environments.

• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or other relational databases.

• Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or equivalent CI/CD technologies.

• Experience implementing automated quality gates, test reporting, and deployment validation.

• Experience with performance, load, resilience, or reliability testing.

• Experience improving observability, monitoring, and production diagnostics.

• Experience using Claude Code or other AI coding agents for development, automated test generation, debugging, and codebase modernization.

• Experience mentoring engineers or contributing to technical standards across a development team.
