We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Safety Specialist who understands commercial construction, leads by example, and knows how to build trust with the people doing the work.
As a New Mexico-based, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned commercial general contractor, SDV Construction takes pride in delivering quality projects while maintaining a culture of accountability, professionalism, and respect.
In this role, you will work directly with project managers, superintendents, field personnel, and subcontractor partners to identify risks, strengthen safe work practices, and ensure our teams have the knowledge and resources to work safely every day.
We're looking for someone who doesn't just enforce safety standards but helps build a culture where people take ownership of safety and look out for one another.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Safety Program Implementation – Implement, maintain, and continuously improve practical, effective safety programs that support safe and productive commercial construction operations across multiple job sites.
- Training & Education – Lead engaging safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training that equip employees and subcontractor partners with the knowledge and confidence to recognize hazards and work safely.
- Incident Prevention & Response – Conduct proactive job site inspections, identify potential hazards, investigate incidents and near misses, and implement meaningful corrective actions that reduce risk and prevent recurrence.
- Regulatory Compliance – Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, New Mexico, and local safety requirements while ensuring accurate inspections, reporting, documentation, and recordkeeping.
- Collaboration – Build strong working relationships with project managers, superintendents, field crews, and subcontractors to reinforce accountability, encourage open communication, and promote a consistent safety culture across every project.
Fundamental Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in construction safety, preferably within commercial general contracting or specialty construction environments.
- Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards, applicable New Mexico safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Ability to recognize construction hazards, assess risk, and implement practical solutions without compromising safety or operational effectiveness.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage field personnel, subcontractors, and project leadership at every level.
- Ability to independently manage job site inspections, safety documentation, training, and incident investigations across multiple projects.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented approach with a commitment to accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement.
- Preferred Certifications: OSHA 500, Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or comparable construction safety credentials.

- Innovative Schedule and Work Environments – Enjoy our standard Monday–Thursday, four 10-hour workday schedule, with hybrid and remote flexibility where operationally appropriate. Field safety responsibilities require regular job site presence, and schedules may vary based on project needs.
- Generous Vacation and Time Off – Recharge and take care of what matters most with vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, parental leave, and bereavement leave, subject to applicable accruals and eligibility.
- 401(k) Retirement Savings and Profit-Sharing Plan – Invest in your future with a 4% employer match on gross earnings, immediate 100% vesting of employer matching contributions, and annual bonus opportunities based on company performance.
