Backend Engineer

On-site Munich, Germany Full-time 10+ yrs

About the Role

Build and operate the backend systems that let AI agents use connected tools reliably. You will own core infrastructure across integrations, secure code execution, and multi-tenant data, working closely with the founding team in a fast-moving environment.

What You'll Do

  • Design and operate a tool gateway that exposes connected APIs and MCP integrations through a Python SDK, with routing, authentication, rate limits, and reliability built in.

  • Run persistent, isolated Linux sandboxes for workspaces, with attention to security, autoscaling, and cost.

  • Own durable, high-performance multi-tenant state and persistence systems designed to handle failures.

  • Identify and resolve integration issues, then improve system architecture to prevent them from recurring.

  • Work directly with users and the founding team to make and ship product and infrastructure decisions.

What We're Looking For

  • Typically 3 to 10+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems.

  • Strong distributed systems experience, including designing for reliability and operating systems through failure.

  • Hands-on expertise with containers, Linux internals, sandboxing, and safely running untrusted code.

  • Experience building Python services and working with infrastructure tooling such as Modal.

  • Practical experience with OAuth, webhooks, rate limits, and third-party API integrations.

  • Background in infrastructure, platform, developer tools, runtime systems, or secure code execution, with experience designing multi-tenant systems.
